With over 40 years of experience in designing and building custom homes for clients from Japan to Alaska, Telluride, and seaside in Florida, we have encountered numerous challenges and viewed them as opportunities. This has led us to develop four groundbreaking building systems that cater to sophisticated custom home projects.

Our founder and CEO, Brian Schafer, has dedicated his career to crafting extraordinary homes. His extensive experience in the industry has allowed him to perfect the Schafer Systems, which were previously only available in an Edgewood home. Today, we offer these systems in a factory-direct environment through Big Cabin Log & Timber.

The Schafer Systems consist of four main components: Glass Forest, Thermal Blanket, SchaferWall, and SchaferWood. Each of these systems is designed to provide a unique solution for custom home projects, allowing homeowners to experience the difference that Schafer Systems has to offer.

Glass Forest

Glass Forest is an innovative product that obscures the line between your home's interior and the natural landscape outside. It features trim-less architectural floor-to-ceiling glass walls seamlessly integrated into hand-stripped cedar trees. Each Glass Forest installation is custom-designed to complement your project's particular building site. Carefully fabricated and shipped by industry leader, AGNORA, and installed by Big Cabin experts, Glass Forest provides an unparalleled visual connection to nature.

Thermal Blanket

The Thermal Blanket is a solid "blanket" of foam insulation for the roof of your home. It eliminates ice dams, reduces heat loss, protects your home from wildfires, and delivers superior thermal R-value, forever. The system consists of oversized textured timber planks that support insulation panels and provide incredible structural integrity for the entire roof system, offering a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.

SchaferWall

SchaferWall is the first, prebuilt, compressed, kiln-dried full log wall that is guaranteed not to settle. It features panelized, kiln-dried, handcrafted full log walls compressed to eliminate settling issues. Stain and chink are added along with pre-fit wood windows/doors, and trimmed prior to shipping. Free from insects, larvae, mold, and mildew, SchaferWall is delivered fully finished, with provisions for electrical and interior partitions, and installed in days not months, on time and on budget.

SchaferWood

SchaferWood is a one-of-a-kind, timeless look that lasts for decades. The SchaferWood System is a proprietary process consisting of heavy double brushing, charring, and finish coloring your wood to create deep antique textures, hues, and finishes. It offers the reclaimed look without the added expense. Available for siding, fascia, trim, log walls, and more, SchaferWood is delivered to your site prefinished and ready to install in matching textures/colors.
