Whispering Wind Designs, nestled in the high eastern fringe of the central Rocky Mountains, just outside the charming town of Nederland, Colorado, is a unique company that has been creating beautiful products for over 39 years. Our workshop, situated at an altitude of almost 9000 feet, offers a breathtaking view of the snow-covered peaks along the Continental Divide, Indian Peaks Wilderness, and Rocky Mountain National Park, providing the perfect inspiration for our designs.

Our goals and standards are simple and straightforward. We aim to offer the absolute best in design and craftsmanship, ensuring that every product is of the highest quality and unique features. We are dedicated to using environmental practices and sustainable resources available to us.

Our Product Line

Whispering Wind Designs offers a wide range of products, including living room, dining room, bedroom, and kitchen furnishings. We also specialize in custom exterior and interior passage doors, kitchen cabinetry, interior trim and millwork, tongue and groove flooring, paneling, and wainscoting.

Our new "TETON WINDSWEPT" line of wood products is designed to replicate the natural texture and patina of aged and weathered barn wood. In addition to large format laser engraving, etching, and cutting, we also produce a multitude of kiln-fired accent tiles, tile murals, tile backsplashes, and address signage.

Materials and Wood Species

At Whispering Wind Designs, we use only the highest quality materials, with a focus on sustainability and environmental practices. Our most requested wood species include Alder, beetle kill pine, and European Beech. Alder, a medium hardwood, is sourced from Oregon or Washington and is known for its warm grain patterns and dark or black character knots. Beetle kill pine, also known as blue stain pine or denim pine, is harvested mainly in the Rocky Mountain region and features spectacular, natural colors resulting from the pine bark beetle. European or German Beech, sourced from Germany's natural forests, is known for its creamy brown color, stability, hardness, and durability.

Standards and Options

Whispering Wind Designs is dedicated to using only the highest quality materials and techniques. We utilize kiln-dried solid woods and top-quality veneers in our cabinetry, doors, and furniture. Our components are built using traditional mortise and tenon joinery and structural dowel peg construction, with panels that float within the legs, stretchers, stiles, and rails to allow for expansion and contraction.

We offer many options to create the perfect piece based on your needs and budget. These include dovetailed drawer boxes, walnut pegs, floating breadboard tops, end-to-end dovetailed tops, raised panels, exposed and through tenons, turned components, laser engraving, stained and laser-etched glass, and more.

Style and Quality

The style of our products is inspired by the designs and craftsmanship from the Arts and Crafts Movement. Each piece is built using time-proven joinery techniques, including dowels, mortise and tenons, hardwood pegs, and dovetails. Our products are as strong in material and workmanship as can be made, artistically designed, of the highest quality, and value.

Quality is assured by using only the highest grades of kiln-dried woods or drying all other woods in our own kilns, ensuring proper and consistent moisture content through the multiple-step finishing process. This ensures that our products will stand the test of time and remain beautiful for generations to come.
