Welcome to Acker Millwork Co., Inc., a family-owned and operated company since 1959, specializing in the manufacture and replication of architectural wood windows and doors for fine homes and historic buildings. Our story began when Ken Acker returned from the army in 1956 and started working with his father building homes in the Milwaukee area. After experiencing delays due to the lack of quality cabinet-making services, Ken decided to set up his own shop in his basement, producing high-quality cabinets. This marked the beginning of Acker Millwork Co., as Ken began manufacturing wood windows and doors to cater to the needs of local contractors.
Our Mission
At Acker Millwork Co., we strive to revive, capture, and preserve the essence of historical and architectural designs, providing our clients with quality wood windows and doors that exceed their expectations. Our goal is to make historical designs relevant to today's homeowner while maintaining the integrity of the original design. We believe in the importance of quality craftsmanship, exceptional customer service, and attention to detail, which sets us apart from other manufacturers.
Our History
The company's journey began in 1959 when Ken Acker, along with his wife Ruth Ann, established Acker Millwork Co. The business flourished as they focused on custom wood windows and doors, catering to individual tastes and needs of homeowners. Today, with the help of Pete and Jeff Acker, the company has continued to grow and innovate, incorporating advanced techniques and modern machinery while maintaining the traditional craftsmanship that made the company a success in the first place.
Manufacturing
Each of Acker Millwork Co.'s windows and doors is made-to-order, manufactured in-house by trusted craftsmen who take pride in their work. Our carefully selected finest materials, time-proven construction methods, and attention to detail result in products that meet exact architectural specifications. We use only the finest wood species and premium joinery in the manufacturing of our wood windows and doors, ensuring that every product stands the test of time.
Unit Restoration
Over the years, historical wood millwork will naturally deteriorate due to exposure to the elements and regular handling. At Acker Millwork Co., we are committed to restoring these units to their original beauty. We strive to utilize as much of the original components as possible, replacing only what is necessary to ensure a successful restoration project.
Why Wood?
Wood has many benefits that make it an exemplary choice for windows and doors. Not only is it a natural, renewable resource, but it also provides superior insulation and energy efficiency. Additionally, wood is reusable, recyclable, and biodegradable, making it a sustainable and environmentally responsible option. The benefits of wood are undeniable, as it provides a natural, breathable barrier against heat and cold, reducing the need for energy consumption.
Wood Options
At Acker Millwork Co., we offer clients the flexibility to choose from a range of wood options that cater to their unique needs and tastes. We understand the importance of meeting individual preferences, which is why we provide custom options and modifications to suit specific requirements.
